About Laboratory Centrifuge Machine for Pathology & Diagnostic Lab

The Laboratory Centrifuge is a motor-driven instrument that spins sample tubes at high speed to separate their contents by density, such as serum or plasma from blood cells, or sediment from urine. It is used in pathology and diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, blood banks, colleges and research settings. Depending on the model, it has a digital speed and timer display, interchangeable rotors, a lid lock and imbalance protection. Divine Health Home Care supplies laboratory centrifuges for hospitals, pathology labs and educational institutions. Available speeds, rotors, features, accessories and prices depend on the exact model and configuration.

Many laboratory tests begin with separating the components of a sample. After a blood sample clots, a centrifuge separates the serum from the cells so that biochemical and immunological tests can be done. It is also used for plasma preparation, urine sediment examination, blood bank procedures and many other applications.

The centrifuge supports sample preparation. It does not replace validated laboratory procedures, quality-control practices or the interpretation of results by qualified professionals.

A laboratory centrifuge is a machine that rotates samples around a fixed axis. The rotation produces a centrifugal force that pushes denser particles outward and to the bottom of the tube, while lighter components remain above. This separates the sample into layers.

Centrifuges range from small benchtop models for clinics and routine laboratories to large, high-speed or refrigerated units for research and specialised work. Features differ between manufacturers and models, so confirm the specification before purchase.

An electric motor spins a rotor that holds the sample tubes in buckets or angled cavities. The force depends on the speed of rotation and the radius of the rotor. Because the same speed gives different forces in different rotors, laboratory protocols often specify the relative centrifugal force (RCF or g-force) rather than rpm alone.

The test method or reagent instructions state the speed or RCF and the time required. Always follow these instructions and the facility’s protocol.

Speed is usually stated in revolutions per minute (rpm). Many routine clinical centrifuges operate within the low-speed to medium-speed range, while micro and high-speed models operate at higher speeds. The speed of one model should not be assumed to apply to every centrifuge.

Capacity is stated as the number of tubes and their volume, for example 6, 8, 12 or 24 tubes of a given size. Choose capacity according to the daily workload and the tube types in use.
