Product information

About Hot Air Oven for Laboratory Sterilization

The Laboratory Hot Air Oven is an electrically heated dry heat sterilizer used to sterilise and dry heat-stable items such as laboratory glassware, metal instruments, powders and oils in hospitals, diagnostic labs, colleges and research settings. It usually has an insulated double-walled body, a stainless steel or mild steel inner chamber, shelves, a temperature controller and a timer. Divine Health Home Care supplies hot air ovens for hospitals, pathology labs, nursing homes and educational institutions. Available sizes, chamber material, controls and prices depend on the exact model and configuration.

Some laboratory items cannot be sterilised with steam or liquid chemicals. Dry heat sterilisation is used for items that can tolerate high temperatures but may be damaged by moisture, such as glassware, metal instruments, powders and oils. A hot air oven provides a controlled, heated chamber for this purpose.

The oven supports the facility’s sterilisation process. It does not replace the facility’s infection-control policy, validated sterilisation cycles or routine monitoring of sterilisation results.

A hot air oven is an electrically heated, insulated cabinet that sterilises items using dry heat. Heating elements warm the air inside the chamber, and a thermostat or digital controller keeps the temperature at the set value. A timer controls the exposure period.

Depending on the model, air may circulate by natural convection or by a fan (forced air). Forced air circulation generally gives more uniform temperature inside the chamber. Confirm the airflow type for the exact unit.

Dry heat destroys microorganisms by oxidation and protein damage at high temperature over a set time. Because heat transfers more slowly in dry air than in steam, dry heat needs higher temperatures and longer exposure than steam sterilisation.

Commonly referenced time and temperature combinations include 160°C for 2 hours, 170°C for 1 hour and 180°C for 30 minutes, with the time counted after the load reaches the set temperature. The correct cycle depends on the load, the packaging and the facility’s validated protocol, so always follow the facility’s procedure.
