About ELISA Reader Machine for Diagnostic & Pathology Laboratory
The ELISA Reader is a microplate photometer used to measure the absorbance (optical density) of samples in 96-well plates after an ELISA test. It is used in diagnostic and pathology laboratories, blood banks, research centres and colleges. Depending on the model, it has a filter-based or monochromator optical system, selectable wavelengths, plate shaking, and PC or built-in software for results. Divine Health Home Care supplies ELISA readers for hospitals, diagnostic labs and educational institutions. Available features, wavelengths, accessories and prices depend on the exact model and configuration.
ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is widely used in diagnostic laboratories to detect and measure antigens and antibodies in samples such as serum and plasma. After the assay reaction, the colour developed in each well is measured by an ELISA reader, which reports absorbance values for each well on the plate.
The reader supports laboratory testing. It does not replace validated assay kits, quality-control procedures, or the interpretation of results by qualified laboratory professionals and clinicians.
An ELISA reader, also called a microplate reader or microplate photometer, passes light of a selected wavelength through each well of a microplate and measures how much light is absorbed. The absorbance value is related to the colour intensity produced by the assay.
Most ELISA readers handle standard 96-well plates. Depending on the model, the instrument may read single or dual wavelengths and process results with built-in or PC-based software.
A light source passes light through an optical filter or monochromator to select the wavelength required by the assay. The light travels through the sample in each well, and a detector measures the transmitted light. The instrument converts this to absorbance, or optical density (OD), for each well.
Many assays use a second reference wavelength to correct for background effects such as plate marks or scratches. Confirm the wavelengths and measurement modes the reader supports against those required by the assay kits you intend to use.
Standard ELISA readers commonly offer filters in the visible range. Frequently used wavelengths include 405 nm, 450 nm, 492 nm and 620 or 630 nm (often used as a reference), but the filters fitted differ between models.
Check that the reader includes the wavelengths required by your assay kits. Additional filters may be offered as optional accessories. The filter set of one model should not be assumed to apply to every ELISA reader.
