About Digital Colorimeter for Diagnostic & Pathology Laboratory

The Digital Colorimeter is a laboratory instrument that measures the absorbance or transmittance of coloured solutions at selected wavelengths using filters. It is used in diagnostic and pathology laboratories, colleges and research settings for photometric tests such as haemoglobin and basic biochemistry estimations, depending on the method and reagent kit. Divine Health Home Care supplies digital colorimeters for hospitals, pathology labs, nursing homes and educational institutions. Available filters, display options, accessories and prices depend on the exact model and configuration.

Many routine laboratory tests rely on a colour reaction. The intensity of the colour is related to the concentration of the substance being measured. A digital colorimeter measures this colour by passing light of a selected wavelength through the sample and displaying the result on a digital screen.

The colorimeter supports laboratory testing. It does not replace validated test methods, reagent kit instructions, quality-control procedures or the interpretation of results by qualified laboratory professionals and clinicians.

A digital colorimeter, also called a photoelectric colorimeter or photo colorimeter, is a compact photometer that uses coloured filters to select the wavelength of light. The light passes through a cuvette or test tube holding the sample, and a detector measures how much is absorbed or transmitted.

The reading is shown as absorbance (optical density) or percentage transmittance on a digital display. Many models can also display concentration after calibration with a standard.

A lamp or LED provides a light source. The light passes through a selected filter that allows only a narrow band of wavelengths to reach the sample. After passing through the sample, the light reaches a detector, which converts it to an electrical signal, and the instrument displays the value.

Colorimetry relies on the Beer-Lambert principle: within a suitable range, absorbance is proportional to the concentration of the coloured substance. The test method and reagent kit specify the wavelength, blank, standard and calculation required.
